We Just Launched a New Seawolves Tradition
This week, we wrapped up our 2025 Major League Rugby season with something brand new — our first-ever End of Season Honors, hosted Tuesday evening at Foster Golf Links in Tukwila.
We brought together our players, coaches, staff, ownership, and sponsors to celebrate individual standouts across the roster, reflect on a season filled with effort and progress, and honor the people who made this year so meaningful.
This night wasn’t just about trophies. It was about who we are — a club built on grit, growth, and giving back. Families, kids, teammates, and partners came together in a relaxed, festive atmosphere to help us recognize excellence on and off the pitch.
As our COO Drew Dambreville put it, “Tonight was about more than just awards. It was about honoring a culture that we’re proud to carry forward. This is just the beginning.”
🏆 Here’s who stood out in 2025:
Young Player of the Year – Calvin Liulamaga
A local standout with serious potential. Calvin hasn’t made his first start yet, but his heart, leadership, and work ethic are impossible to miss.
Breakthrough Player of the Year – Malembe Mpofu
From starting rugby late to starring in Major League Rugby. In his first season with us, Malembe made 10 appearances, scored 2 tries, forced 3 turnovers, and averaged 60 minutes per match.
Community Impact Player – Njabulo “Juice” Gumede
Juice showed up for our region in a big way. On the pitch and off it, he continues to bring positive energy and unwavering commitment to our community.
Try of the Season – Riekert Hattingh (vs. Chicago, Round 10)
A signature Seawolves team try, finished the only way Riekert knows how — with determination and flair.
Supporters' Player of the Year – Cameron Orr
Voted by you, our fans. Cam’s leadership, accessibility, and work as the league’s top scrum coach made him a fan favorite in every sense.
Forward of the Year – Charles Elton
Charles made 206 tackles in just 12 matches — the most in Major League Rugby. He couldn’t be with us in person but sent his thanks and pride from overseas.
Back of the Year – Duncan Matthews
Duncan was on fire all season: 61 defenders beaten, 6 tries, 11 assists, and 1,162 meters gained. He led the league, lit up the backfield, and never backed down.
MVP (Most Valuable Person) – Josh Bottorff
The unsung hero behind our success. Josh analyzes every moment of film and helps prepare our team week in and week out. We don’t function without him.
Players' Player – Duncan Matthews
Voted by the team. Duncan’s second award of the night speaks volumes about how much his teammates rely on and respect him.
Coaches’ Player – Divan Rossouw
8 tries. 62 defenders beaten. 76 gainline carries. Divan did it all. His consistency, versatility, and class made him a coach’s dream.
Looking Ahead: Celebration and Community
Our final official event of the season takes place this Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM at Trenchers in Renton. Come hang out, celebrate with the team, and watch the MLR Championship match with us.
But just because the season’s over doesn’t mean we’re slowing down. We’re committed to growing the game year-round — through summer camps, clinics, and community events. Our goal? To put a rugby ball in the hands of 20,000 kids by the time the USA Rugby World Cup kicks off.
This is just the beginning.
